Three wines for winter: Sardinia in a glass
Three wines for winter: Sardinia in a glass
With the arrival of the colder months, the way we choose and enjoy wine changes. We look for structure, depth and aromas that can accompany rich dishes, moments of reflection and long conversations. Cantina Santa Maria La Palma, with over 700 hectares of vineyards in the Alghero area and a tradition that focuses on the link between terroir and native grape varieties, offers three wines that are ideal for winter and convey the essence of Sardinia in a direct and sincere way.
Redìt – Cannonau di Sardegna Riserva DOC
Cannonau is a grape variety that symbolises Sardinia and its sunny hills; in the Riserva version, such as Redìt, it expresses all the power and elegance that this variety can achieve. Grown in the sun-drenched vineyards of Alghero’s Nurra region, this wine has a deep red colour and an aromatic profile rich in ripe red fruits, sweet spices and slight toasted tones.
The Riserva matures slowly, developing structure and complexity, with balanced tannins and a persistence that invites you to take another sip. It is a wine that pairs well with many dishes, even important ones: roast meats, game, mature cheeses or simply a convivial table around a dish of baked pasta.
Its strength reflects the warmth of the territory, the Mediterranean light and the solidity of a winemaking tradition rooted in Sardinia.
Recònta – Cagnulari Riserva DOC
Cagnulari is one of the most characteristic native wines of north-western Sardinia, a historic variety that Cantina Santa Maria La Palma has helped to promote and spread. Recònta, in its Riserva version, is a red wine with a strong and distinct character, with aromas of wild berries, cherries and herbaceous nuances typical of the Mediterranean scrub.
On the palate, it is full-bodied, smooth and persistent, with a balance that combines freshness with the depth of the fruit. It is perfect with savoury dishes such as roasts, boiled meats or stews, and manages to support the richness of winter flavours without being heavy. Recònta tells the story of the most authentic Sardinia, that of silent hills, calcareous soils and a wine-making history that has its roots in time.
Soffio di Sole – Passito Wine
When winter calls for a moment of sweetness, Soffio di Sole is the answer in a glass. A passito wine made from carefully dried grapes, it concentrates aromas of dried fruit, ripe apricot, candied citrus peel and honey. It is a wine that balances sweetness and acidity, offering a smooth but not cloying drink with an elegant persistence.
Soffio di Sole is perfect with dry desserts and blue cheeses, but it also lends itself well as a meditation wine after dinner, a moment all to itself. It is a reminder of light even on the coldest days, capable of evoking the brightness of the Sardinian sun, which seems to linger longer here, even in winter.
A winter to drink
These three wines — Redìt, Recònta and Soffio di Sole — represent three sides of the same land: Sardinia. From the structured red that speaks of sun-drenched vineyards and tradition, to the native red that tells a story of history and identity, to the passito that offers sweetness and warmth, each bottle is a complete sensory experience.
Choosing one of these wines means bringing to the table not only quality, but also the character and personality of a unique terroir, where tradition and modernity come together to produce wines that are worth every sip.
