On Saturday, August 22, the rooftop of Hotel La Margherita will host an exhibition dedicated to the traditional Sardinian handmade knife, organised by the Corporazione Sarda Coltellinai together with Cantina Santa Maria La Palma
An evening dedicated to discovering one of the most fascinating expressions of Sardinian craftsmanship and meeting the master artisans who continue to preserve, reinterpret and evolve this ancient tradition.
On Saturday, August 22, 2026, from 6:00 pm to midnight, the Rooftop Bar of Hotel La Margherita in Alghero will host “I Maestri del Coltello Sardo” (The Masters of the Sardinian Knife), an event organised by the Corporazione Sarda Coltellinai together with Cantina Santa Maria La Palma.
This free-entry exhibition will bring some of Sardinia’s master knife makers to Alghero, accompanied by an aperitif featuring wines from our winery and a panoramic view over the historic centre, the sea and Capo Caccia.
The Sardinian knife: from a working tool to a work of art
At the heart of the event is the handcrafted Sardinian knife, an object deeply connected to the history and material culture of the island.
Originally created as a practical tool for everyday life and work, over time the Sardinian knife has also become a fine example of high-quality craftsmanship, sought after and appreciated by collectors in Sardinia, throughout Italy and abroad.
Each piece is the result of the experience and skill of the master knife maker. From selecting and working the materials to crafting the blade and handle, through to the finishing touches and smallest details, every stage contributes to making each knife a unique creation.
Tradition and creativity come together in objects that preserve their roots while expressing a contemporary vision of Sardinian craftsmanship.
The master artisans of the Corporazione Sarda Coltellinai in Alghero
Bringing these creations to Alghero is the Corporazione Sarda Coltellinai, founded in Nuoro in 2015 with the aim of protecting, promoting and enhancing the tradition of Sardinian handcrafted knives and the knowledge and skills behind their creation.
Throughout the evening, visitors will have the opportunity to meet the artisans, admire their work and learn more about the techniques, materials and stories behind each piece.
“I Maestri del Coltello Sardo” aims to go beyond a traditional exhibition. The event is designed to create a direct encounter between the public and the artisans, helping people discover a tradition that continues to evolve thanks to the work of professionals who preserve and pass on its knowledge.
Craftsmanship and wine: two ways of telling the story of Sardinia
The exhibition will be accompanied by an aperitif featuring wines from Cantina Santa Maria La Palma, available from 6:00 pm to midnight.
It is an encounter between different forms of excellence, united by something fundamental: a strong connection to the land and to the culture of craftsmanship and expertise.
On one side are the master knife makers and their ability to transform materials through knowledge, technique and creativity; on the other are the winegrowers and their daily work in the vineyards of Alghero and the Nurra, where the wines of Cantina Santa Maria La Palma are born.
The evening will take place against the spectacular backdrop of the rooftop of Hotel La Margherita, overlooking the rooftops of Alghero’s historic centre, the sea and the unmistakable profile of Capo Caccia.
An opportunity to meet, discover and experience some of the most authentic expressions of Sardinian craftsmanship and culture, through artisan traditions, wine and territory.
