On Thursday, June 5, Cantina Santa Maria La Palma officially presented the 2026 edition of Akènta Day, the event that, on Saturday, July 11, will once again bring thousands of people to the waters of Alghero to witness the spectacular emergence of Akènta Sub, the sparkling wine aged beneath the sea in the Bay of Porto Conte.
During the press conference, the event programme and the key figures of an edition expected to be one of the most attended and internationally diverse were presented. Following the success of Akènta Click Day, which attracted participation requests from across Italy, Akènta Day 2026 will welcome guests from the United States, England, Germany, Switzerland, Scotland and Slovakia, confirming the event’s growing international reputation.
Originally created to celebrate the emergence of Akènta Sub, Akènta Day has evolved into much more than a wine event. It is an experience that showcases Alghero, the Bay of Porto Conte, Sardinia and its outstanding local products, turning one of Italy’s most original winemaking projects into a celebration of the territory, its culture and its hospitality.
Once again, the star of the event will be Akènta Sub, the sparkling wine that matures beneath the waters of Alghero and has become one of the most distinctive symbols of Cantina Santa Maria La Palma. What makes Akènta Day truly unique is the emergence itself: Cantina Santa Maria La Palma is the only underwater winery in the world whose underwater cellar can be seen emerging from the sea during a public event, offering wine lovers and visitors an extraordinary spectacle unlike any other.
The 2026 edition further strengthens Akènta Day’s international profile and its role as an ambassador for Alghero and Sardinia, promoting the region through an experience that brings together wine, the sea, breathtaking landscapes and authentic hospitality.
Cantina Santa Maria La Palma would like to thank Councillor Ornella Piras and Graziano Porcu, President of Fondazione Alghero, for their presence and support, as well as all the journalists and guests who attended the press conference.
A special thank you also goes to Simposio | Alghero for hosting the event on its beautiful terrace, providing the perfect setting to present an initiative that, year after year, continues to showcase Alghero to the world.
The countdown has begun: on Saturday, July 11, the sea of Alghero will once again become the stage for one of the most spectacular events of the Mediterranean summer.
